KU Leuven

The coordinating organization, KU Leuven is the largest university in Belgium in terms of research funding and expenditure (EUR 532 million in 2020) and charter member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU). In the Times Higher Education ranking KUL is ranked as the 14th European university, while in the Reuters Top 100 of the World’s most innovative institutions, KUL is listed as the first European university, for the fourth year in a row. In Horizon 2020, KUL is involved in 125 Innovative Training Networks, ranking it first institution of higher education with regard to number of MSCA-ITNs, hosting 76 MSCA Individual Fellows. As of 2020, KUL employs 14.129 people, of which 1.850 tenured academic staff, 1.792 postdoctoral staff, 407 teaching staff and 4.453 administrative and logistic staff. The resource recovery from biomass and waste is one of the major research lines of the Process and Environmental Technology Lab team (PETLab).
