CTIC – The Portuguese Technological Centre for the Leather Industry is an initiative of leather companies, the sector’s Association and with a participation of the Portuguese State. CTIC has modern premises, in an area of 1.800 m2, including well equipped laboratory for chemical analysis, laboratory of microbiology, laboratory for physical and mechanical tests, a pilot plant for the development of semi-industrial processes, rooms for training courses, library and auditorium for conferences. CTIC provides scientific and technological support to the sector, a predominant role in the implementation of new technologies and processes, and for the environment preservation, CTIC promotes research, development and innovation projects in cooperation with other technological institutions, universities and enterprises. In the training and Information areas CTIC provides professional training courses for the sector, in-company-training for staff, publishes a Technical Newsletter and organises several seminars and exhibitions. The Centre has public recognitions for training, and it is certified under ISO 9001 and ISO 17025, being also the national standardisation body for Leather, participating also in CEN – European Committee for Standardization.
