From waste to resource: Training young researchers on developing innovative, circular solutions for wastewater treatment sludge - INCLUE

As part of TU Delft’s Science Day 2024, the Department of Water Management opened its laboratory doors to curious young visitors and their families on 3rd November. Throughout the day, participants engaged with interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities designed to showcase how science and engineering contribute to safer, cleaner water systems.

Among the researchers present was our INCLUE Doctoral Candidate 4, Andrea, who was actively working in the lab while school children visited. While experiments were running, the young visitors could observe and participate in simple scientific procedures such as pH testing, filtering water samples, and identifying invisible pollutants. These activities provided a glimpse into the practical work of water engineers and highlighted the importance of water science in everyday life. Children showed great interest and curiosity, asking insightful questions like “How do you clean water before drinking?” and “What happens when we flush the toilet?” Their enthusiasm served as a powerful reminder of the importance of science communication and early engagement.

This outreach effort reflects the INCLUE project’s broader mission: to connect cutting-edge research with the wider public, raising awareness of the science behind water safety and sustainable environmental solutions.
